The Coat of Hopes is currently walking to Norwich. It is made up of blanket patches created by hundreds of people from across Britain, to carry their griefs and hopes in the face of the climate and ecological breakdown. It has been worn by hundreds of people and has walked over 1000 miles so far. The intention is to keep the Coat walking whilst we remain in a state of climate and ecological emergency. Everyone is invited to wear this Coat or to contribute a patch.
Yvonne Stonehewer (Muriel’s daughter) had the joy and privilege of wearing the Coat of Hopes on the walk from Chapeltown into Sheffield.
“When I heard about the Coat of Hopes it just struck a chord with me…I love nature and care about our environment. I enjoy walking and the craft and significance of the patches on the Coat made sense to me, so I wanted to be involved. I felt the warmth and protection of wearing the Coat but also the weight and responsibility that it held within it. I gained so much from walking alongside the other Coat pilgrims, hearing about their story with the Coat and benefitted from their encouragement along the way. Being with the Coat of Hope has reinspired me to continue to do what I can in ‘my small corner’ to care for our world.”
